Freewares for deleting empty folder

How many times has something as simple as deleting an empty folder wasted your time? Windows file management has progressed much since the old days of MS-DOS, but it’s still far from perfect. Many times when you manage your computer hard disk drives or move files and folders, you end up having empty folders. This situation also happens when you uninstall programs. Although these empty folders do not take up any space, it still is annoying if you are searching for some file. In this post I decide to give some alternatives to make your task easy.

There are two Freeware tools (which i like most) for deleting empty folders

1. RED (Remove Empty Directory)
Type: Freeware & open source
About: RED searches and deletes empty directories recursively below a given start folder and shows the result in a well arranged tree. Further you can create some custom rules for keeping and deleting folders. Empty files in directories can also be ignored. Just try RED to see the other features - no registry keys or system files will be touched.

Requirement: Essentially require Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
Size: 653 Kb

2. Empty Folder Nuker
Type: Freeware
About: No complexities, not required to run set up and no additional requirements
Size: 340KB
Download link: http://simonwai.com/bin/EmptyFolderNuker.exe

Though i had to be including freewares only, but since world is turning Open(Source), here is one(thanks to one of the commenters)

3. Vanity Remover
Type: Open Source
About: "This application removes all sub-folders (and the folder itself) where vanity is found. In other words: Recursivly checks for and deletes empty folders. Simple as that."

Size: 32.5 KB

Disclaimer
Some applications may require temporary directories that are empty. It could be possible that some applications stop working if such a temporary folder gets deleted. So it would be better if you try not to delete any folder unknown to you and those from your system Drive(generally temporary file folders are situated here)

  2. How sad. Macs have been able to do this from the start. While imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, it would be nice if they at least tried to get it right.

  3. since Windows keeps imitating(or more polite, getting inspired) by mac, they didn't have had noticed that feature.

  4. well, seems as these 2 programs are not created by microsoft...they are not imitating mac(a paid version of linux and BSD) at all

  5. Talking of windows i meant the operating system windows. you can see the new windows 7, how much more it resembles to mac than vista. I think since mac is already very user friendly by both OS and softwares, windows tries to incorporate all those new features of the new apple OS in their new release.

  8. OSX has taken ideas from microsoft windows and windows has taken ideas from osx, when you make something new YOU WILL ALWAYS COPY IDEAS because if no one was allowed to copy ideas what you would have is a shitton of shit products because as soon as a competitor had come up with a new idea no one else could use it.

Imagine if car designers couldn't copy innovations from others, you'd have a shit ton of shit cars. If Phone designers couldn't copy ideas, well there would a shit ton of shit phones. That or one company would have 100% monopoly!
